Mason High School senior Nimanthi Ranatunga was recognized as The Kiwanis Club of Mason's April Student of the Month. Ranatunga was nominated by MHS Language Arts teacher and STUGO advisor Betsy Carras.
“This young lady not only organized, monitored, and supervised Homecoming Week Deco Day, she also completely organized the students in Student Government to attend the State Student Government Conference." shared Carras. "She's a top notch student with complete follow-through that is doing her job well and gives a ton of heart into the work she does. We love that because its not about the recognition, or the points, or the cord. Great kid!”
Ranatunga has been involved with the Ohio Association of Student Councils since sixth grade, and an officer of the state-wide organization during high school. She was selected for The Ohio State University's Health Science Scholars Program, and will study neuroscience in the fall.
On April 19, the Kiwanis Club presented Ranatunga with $100, a Kiwanis bell, and a certificate commemorating her achievement. Ranatunga's parents, Ravi and Priyanka, assistant principal Dion Reyes, superintendent Dr. Gail Kist-Kline, and nominator Carras joined the Kiwanians in recognizing Nimanthi's accomplishments. The Mason Kiwanis Club meets weekly at noon at the Houston Restaurant in Mason.
