Mason High School senior Asia Porter was recognized as The Kiwanis Club of Mason's March Student of the Month. Porter was nominated by MHS Science teacher and National Honor Society Advisor Barb Shuba.

“Asia is an amazing student who takes on any challenge with grace and dignity. She is a member of the Chronicle staff and NHS, and has written about many issues facing our student body with a keen eye,” shared Shuba. “In NHS she took on the challenge of creating an educational video for our campaign to support LLS. She reached out to former students impacted by this disease and created a video that shared their stories and honored their journeys. While the purpose of the video was to educate our students, she also touched the lives of the honored heroes families. It gave them a chance to share their story of how LLS impacted their families.”

Porter is an Editor -in-Chief of the Chronicle, and a leader in the Mason Inclusion Club where she recently co-produced a video of MI, MMS and MHS girls in honor of Women's History Month. Porter is interested in attending Northwestern University, University of Richmond, or Tulane University in the fall, and plans to study sociology/international relations with an eye towards attending law school after college.

On March 15, the Kiwanis Club presented Porter with $100, a Kiwanis bell, and a certificate commemorating her achievement. Porter’s father, Dwight Porter, assistant principals Amy Hull and Dion Reyes, and nominator Shuba joined the Kiwanians in recognizing Asia’s accomplishments. The Mason Kiwanis Club meets weekly at noon at the Houston Restaurant in Mason.
