Mason High
School students Keerthi Sekar, Jenny
Wan, and Annie Wang were
selected as 2018 National Honorable Mention (NHM) recipients of the NCWIT
Award for Aspirations in Computing.
"I
have had the honor and pleasure of having Keerthi, Jenny and Annie in my
class for multiple semesters," explained MHS Computer Programming, Math
and Networking teacher Greg Kummer.
"They are all very good students and computer scientists."
There
were more than 3,600 applications for the 2018 Aspirations Award, and only 350
NHMs were selected.
"All
three girls use CS as a tool to further their development in their other
passions," added Kummer. "Whether those are in the realms of
promoting computer science like Annie in Hack Club and Hackathon or Jenny in
TEDx/INTERalliance, or robotics like Keerthi in First/Quantum Leap. They
all take advantage of any opportunity to learn and make themselves and others
better."
NCWIT Aspirations in Computing (AiC) provides a
long-term community for female technologists, from K-12 through higher
education and beyond, encouraging persistence in computing through continuous
engagement and ongoing encouragement at each pivotal stage of their educational
and professional development.
