NCWIT StudentsMason High School senior Emily Wang was named a National Award winner for the National Center of Women in Information Technology (NCWIT) 2017 Aspirations in Computing.
Mason High School students
Nidhi Iyanna, Keerthi Sekar, Annie Wang and Jenny Wan
were four of ten Ohio students to receive honorable mentions.

It has been a nice progression
year," said Emily Wang, who won the state award in tenth grade, national honorable mention as a junior, and culminated with the National Award this year. Wang plans to major in computer science in college.

There were more than 3,500 applications
and only 11 girls from Ohio were chosen

With women only being 18
of the population working in the field of Information Technology, this is a testament
what Mason City Schools is doing to bridge that gender gap," shared MHS Computer Programming/Mathematics/ Networking teacher Greg Kummer.

NCWIT Aspirations in Computing (AiC) provides a long-term community for female technologists, from K-12 through higher education and beyond, encouraging persistence in computing through continuous engagement and ongoing encouragement at each pivotal stage of their educational and professional development.
