Spencer PetrovMason High School senior Spencer Petrov has been chosen to Team USA for the Word Cycling Championships.

USA Cycling announced thirty athletes that will represent the United States as the 2017 UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Bieles Luxembourg on January 28-29
, and Petrov is one of them.

"We have depth and talent in all of our categories this year and look forward to a strong showing in Luxembourg,” said Marc Gullickson, USA Cycling’s Cyclocross Program Director.

Petrov is a member of Cyclocross Alliance, a Midwest Regional development team based in Michigan, and is positioned in the U23 category. Petrov has been racing competitively for eight years, and this is his second selection to a World's team representing Team USA. Petrov has been traveling to Europe for the past three years with the US National Team, and will also compete for Team USA at a World Cup in Hoogerheide, ND on January 22.

"Spencer is a graduating senior who has been participating in the "blended learning" concept for the past three years," shared MHS Principal
Dave Hyatt

Blended learning means that at times Petrov would be training in Belgium for a few weeks while utilizing  APEX (the district's digital curriculum), flipped classrooms, and having teachers that are utilizing other tech tools for instruction and feedback.

"Obviously he's the real deal in cycling," added Hyatt. "We are so very proud of him, and inspired by his commitment to realizing his dream!"
