Students from AP Chemistry classes across the tri-state recently competed in the American Chemical Society (ACS) Chemistry Olympiad test. The top five scorers are honored at a recognition dinner and receive a monetary prize ranging from $400 to $100. Mason High School AP Chemistry students earned four out of those five possible awards! 

MHS sophomore Jenny Hong finished in first place, and junior Allen Yang finished in second. Tying for third place were junior Richard Liu and senior Sam Varner. These four students were honored at an American Chemical Society Dinner. 

Jeffery Huang was a second year competitor and actually scored the highest. However, a student cannot receive a monetary award two years in a row. Each school sends their top two competitors to the next level of testing, The ACS National Chemistry Olympiad qualifier test at Miami University Hamilton. Hong and Huang represented Mason High School at the event. Based on the scores from the qualifier test, only the top 20 scorers across the nation are invited to participate in the National Chemistry Olympiad chemistry camp over the summer. Jeffrey Huang, for the second year in a row, was notified that he scored in the top 50 in the nation.
