Dedication of Comets Rock of Remembrance

Local Foundation to Dedicate Comets Rock of Rememberance
Posted on 10/17/2019

When: Friday October 18th at dusk

Where: Mason High School Front Entrance, 6100 S. Mason-Montgomery Road

Who: 15 years ago, James Horning was a senior at Wm. Mason High School when in October of his senior year he was tragically killed in an automobile accident while coming home from his girlfriend's house on a Monday evening. Following his passing, James' father, Jim Sr. along with several of his closest friends, James' former coaches and teachers, started the JVH Memorial Foundation to help students in need and to keep the spirit of James alive in hopes that it will help others (especially families who are dealing with a similar loss).

Members of the community are invited to celebrate James as well as the students who passed too soon. The dedication of the Rock of Remembrance will serve as a tribute and unifying fixture in the Mason community. Just how James has continued to support families in Mason through our board’s work, the Rock will serve to honor all students and extend the compassion and togetherness he would have wanted our community to have.

Dedication speakers will include Jim Horning, Superintendent Jonathan Cooper , former coaches and teachers Craig Murnan and Vance Reid, and HOPE Squad students.

What: The JVH Memorial Foundation’s Night of Remembrance & Dedication of Mason City Schools Rock of Remembrance

The Horning Family and the JVH board would like to formally extend an invitation to all members of the JVH, Mason Wrestling and Mason Schools families to join us Friday evening, October 18th at the front entrance of Mason High School. This will mark the 15 year anniversary of James’ passing. The JVH board and Mason City Schools have worked in collaboration to unveil and dedicate the Rock of Remembrance Memorial that evening.

The Rock of Remembrance Memorial will be placed at the front entrance of the high school. The Foundation’s support of Mason families includes remembering those special people in our lives that never leave us, even after they’re gone.

 About the JVH Foundation

The JVH Foundation has helped put back more than $10,000 this year to the Mason community, provided supplies to students in Mason via the Mason Schools Foundation stuff the bus program, meals for families during Thanksgiving, as well as presents for Christmas. The JVH Foundation works directly with school counselors at Mason to get supplies, gifts cards and support to students in need. It has been through your support at our Golf Outings, Wrestling Tournaments, and the generous time and financial donations to our foundation that makes all of this possible.  Comets Rock
